When I started Marissa's 365 day remake challenge, I thought the same thing- there is absolutely no where that sells clothes under a dollar. It's impossible!
But be patient- you'll start to discover the hidden jems! Here's my list of my favorite. If you have any favorites, please, PLEASE let me know in the comments!
#1- Powhatan Clothes Closet (Powhatan, Virginia)
I love this thrift store because it has $3 bag sales. And they are big bags. I can typically get about 20-25 items per bag and they have everything! They have disaster pieces out the wazoo and tons of kids clothes. They also sometimes have random sales where bags are $2 or 2 for $5!
#2- The Thrifty Quaker (Midlothian, Virginia)
I love the Thrifty Quaker because they have a great mission and they are so nice. They have sales everyday but they have Wacky Wednesday where the clothes that are 75% off suddenly become .50 cents. This store makes me laugh because they often have clothes that are too nice. They will have clothes that are this season, my size and amazing- for .50 cents! It makes me a little mad that I ever bought clothes retail... The store opens at 9:30 am and there's a group of regulars that are always there prompt. (There are still some great deals later in the day, no worries!)
#3- YMCA Thrift store (Blacksburg, VA)
While at Virginia Tech, I discovered this gem of a thrift store. This store always has amazing prices on EVERYTHING. Shirts are typically only $2 anyway but the first "weekend" (friday &sat) of every month they put certain colored tagged clothes up for a bag sale. Their bag sale is $5 and has a mixture of flared fashion. There is a lot of name brand clothes (mostly from college students) as well as "county chic" aka prairie skirts, flannel, handmade and so much more!
#4- Second Time Around (Blacksburg, VA)
They also have awesome prices and a bag sale! I can't remember when their bag sale is, but I remember it being good :)
#5- The Durham Rescue Mission (Raleigh/Durham, NC)
The Durham Rescue Mission is probably the biggest thrift store that I've ever been in. There are two. The one in Raleigh is the BIG one. They have awesome prices and awesome stuff! They have a $1 clothing rack outside as well as they have huge bins of .25 cent clothes.
*best part* they have a couple of free bins full of books, kids items and just cool stuff!
