Today it is HOT HOT HOT outside! Where did spring go???
I found this fantastic polyester blue dress with buttons all down the front, and these FABULOUS SHOULDER PADS.
Did I mention it also had this super cool slit in the front?
I wanted to make the dress shorter while still preserving the bottom of the dress. The other catch- the top of the dress was already "fitted" so it would look nice on top. I figured out how much of the top part I wanted and cut there. (about 3 buttons down.)
Then I looked at how long the skirt should be and cut the middle part out of the dress.
I sewed the bottom- bottom part of the dress together since this part didn't have buttons and I didn't want it to move around.
With the top part on my body, I went to the mirror and used a white colored pencil to mark where I wanted to cut the dress. (You can't see it in the picture but it is there. You can also use a crayola washable marker)
After I had cut off the sleeves and shoulder of the dress, I cut on my white line so I could give the dress a sweetheart neck line.
Then I hemmed the sides of the top of the dress so it would fit.
I didn't change the width of the skirt part but instead pinned it so it would give a gathered look.
Tada! New strapless summer dress- cost .50 cents!
I'm in love with cardigans so naturally I had to pair it with one.
